QUEENS WATERFRONT
HIGH-RISE DEVELOPMENT
Client: Ideal Gim Venture Sdn Bhd
Location: Bayan Lepas, Penang
Completion Year: 2021 (Q1), 2022 (Q2)
Site Area: 2.89 Acres, 2.89 Acres
Queens Waterfront is a 36.53-acre mixed-use development strategically located in the southwestern district of Penang Island, a thriving hub for business, tourism and leisure. A significant portion of the project (24.79 acres) will be built on reclaimed land, extending Penang’s coastline and unlocking new opportunities for urban growth.
This ambitious development will integrate residential, commercial and leisure spaces to create a vibrant waterfront community. The land reclamation will not only expand the usable land but also improve the area’s connectivity and economic potential which is in line with Penang’s long-term development vision.
Once completed, the Queens Waterfront will be a major attraction, complementing nearby attractions such as Queensbay Mall and the bustling Bayan Lepas business district. The prime waterfront location will offer breathtaking views of the Straits of Malacca while the mixed-use concept will ensure a vibrant, live-work-play environment for residents and visitors alike.
QUEENS WATERFRONT PROMENADE
The 850-metre Queens Waterfront Promenade, now 50% complete and open to the public, serves as a new landmark that enhances the Queensbay Mall and Bayan Lepas neighbourhood. Along the waterfront promenade and beyond, the project transforms the promenade into a revitalised, community-friendly public space that encourages social interaction and leisure activities. It brings together key elements such as a children’s playground, striking features, site-specific sculptures, retail space and outdoor dining inspired by the themes of marine life, sculpture park and beach habitat. The low railing allows the public greater mobility and an unobstructed view of the historically significant Jerejak Island amidst the lush, pristine rainforest with biodiverse flora and fauna.
QUEENS RESIDENCES Q2 @ QUEENS WATERFRONT
One of the most recognisable features of Q2 are the Petal Shades which consist of GI frames and a tensile structure, providing an integrative solution for lightweight structural options, durability and mouldability. A 60-metre infinity pool at the edge of the Amenity Deck blends into the stunning natural surroundings of the site, creating a hidden, secluded ambience where various types of sublime water experiences are possible: Family Spas, Jacuzzi, Swim Jets and Hydrotherapy.
QUEENS RESIDENCES Q1 @ QUEENS WATERFRONT
The defining, coherent elegance of Sky Beach on Level 3A offers a new vision of the borrowed landscape, designed to maximise the views of Jerejak Island and blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, allowing residents to enjoy sun, sand and solitude simultaneously. The thoughtful use of negative space between the open yet labyrinthine concrete columns allows for strategically chosen geometric views of the barbecue area, lounge and breezy waterfront. Inspired by a natural colour palette, a subtle colour gradient from granite black to slate grey to cloudy white complemented the built environment to coexist with the beauty of the surroundings.
Dynamic, organically shaped and Foliage-Inspired Gazebo on Level 6, with an overall height of 2.4 metres and a width of 3.2 metres, provides shade from the sun and a tranquil, biophilic green space that sustainably strengthens the sense of community and well-being.
Potted Garden brings open spaces into conversation with the surrounding built and natural environment, defining the seamless relationship between space, people and nature. From functionality to the intriguing interplay of seating and sculpture, the platform boot-inspired planter conveniently integrates these elements into the design process and lends itself to traversing the reading nook, lounge area and strolling path to explore the urban landscape that engages communities.
